| Date: | 11-05-2009 | | Name: | Paul Pratt | | Location: | Eastbourne, England | | Message: | F4 Phantom.... Awesome. I served on 19 Squadron, RAFG Wildenrath. We were flying the British FGR2 version which was powered by the Rolls Royce engines. The Weapon systems were more Air to Air with 4 Sparrow Medium Range AAMs and 4 Sidewinder Short Range AAMs. For up close stuff they carried the SUU gun, a chain gun pod on the centre-line weapons point with a 1000 round 'Link-less' capacity. The two wing tanks were fitted to give longer loiter time on CAP and would have been 'Dumped' if any enemy aircraft were engaged.... lets face it! even a Skoda could out turn a Phantom, let alone most of the Migs.
Answer:I've seen pictures where they're using phantoms to test out the durability of nuclear power plants (ie smashing phantoms against walls). |
